Day 18 June 9, 2023 Manarola

Day 18 June 9, 2023 (Manarola)

Today we hiked the trail from Manarola to Riomaggiore and let’s just say it was a challenge. It is only ¾ mile long, but it is almost a straight up and straight down hike. Literally 800 feet up and 800 feet down. Luckily, there are lots of places to stop and catch your breath and take in the views. As much as it is hard going up, it’s just as hard going down. My knees and quads have really had a workout the last few days!

We walked around the town, grabbed a few nibbles, and then found a spot to sit and have a drink and rest. I tried a limoncino spritz, which was good, but I think I prefer the Aperol. We took the train back to Manarola, showered up, and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. John made dinner reservations for us at Ristorante Marina Piccola and we started with a seafood salad, then gnocchi with seafood and saffron, and baked bream with potatoes. We finished it off with a berry panna cotta and a limoncino.

We came home and called it a night!

Miles walked – 4.75 Ciao!

Part of the 94 steps going down from our BNB.
The trail to Riomaggiore, which is an hour long. Ummm, it took us longer than that due to needing breaks as we were climbing vertically!
One of the views looking back to Manarola.
We had reached the top by now and so it was downhill from here. They lie, it takes more than 25 minutes to get down, lol!
The bridge crossing into Riomaggiore and one of the monorails.
On the way down!
Love the vegetation all around!
Views into the town.
Our buddy at the little cafe we stopped at for a drink. He’s apparently the cafe cane (dog).
John had to touch the water to see how warm/cold it was; he had an audience with the seagull and pigeon.
Dinner time!
Seafood salad which consisted of cuttlefish, shrimp, either squid or octopus, olives and tomatoes. It was very good!
Baked bream with vegetables
Seafood gnocchi with saffron
Berry panna cotta
Limoncino
