Day 9 – Friday, March 7, 2025 – Marigot Bay and Soufriere, St. Lucia

Day 9 – Friday, March 7, 2025 – Marigot Bay and Soufriere, St. Lucia

The gang had an early morning excursion, and our excursion started at 1pm today, so we had an easy morning while moored up in Marigot Bay. John went to check to see if we could swim off the back of the boat but there were too many jellyfish so that didn’t happen. I took advantage of spending some time up deck under the sunshade reading, while John decided to take the tender into Marigot Bay and look around. He said there was not too much to see so I didn’t miss much.  The boat pulled up anchor around noon and we sailed around to the other side of the island and moored up in Soufriere, where our excursion started. We passed the gang in our tenders as they were heading back in.

Our guide’s name was Sheldon and our driver was Nelson. We had about a 15-minute drive through the town on our way up to the Tet Paul nature trail. There we were met by our trekking guide, Felix, who had a very dry sense of humor, but considering we were his last hike of the day (he’d already done 3 prior), his humor was pretty much gone, lol! It was Friday and he was ready to head out for the weekend. The trail was pretty much straight up over rocks and tree roots, so you had to watch where you were walking. Felix pointed out certain plants and gave little snippets of history. Once we were at the top of the peak, the scenery was just breathtaking! They have a little store (how convenient) up there where they sell goods and even their local beer, Piton. John and I split one of the beers, which was good, and then headed back down. When we got back down to where we had started, we got to sample some fried codfish fritters and fried bread, which was very good. A quick ride back to the dock to catch the tender and then back on the boat.

We all met up in the Tropical bar and had a few drinks before showering, getting packed up, and headed to dinner. We got some pics with our favorite dinner staff, Lina and Jedmar, who have made the whole dining experience great! The influencers, Scott and Joe, wanted to have one final drink at the bar after dinner, so they did; I passed! We got the rest of our packing done and it was lights out. We plan to meet for breakfast at 8 am and then we have a van coming to meet us at the dock at 10 am. Thanks to Catherine for making those arrangements! It was a great trip with great friends, and we look forward to our next one together. As it stands right now, we plan to meet on the Royal Clipper again May 2026 for a cruise in the Mediterranean!

Credit to Catherine for this amazing picture! She captured this while her and Scott were on their excursion earlier in the morning. I just had to steal this and repost!
Another credit to either Catherine or Scott for this lovely shot of the ship!
This is Soufriere in St. Lucia
On the trail…..
This is Felix, our guide, showing us I believe a snake plant. He didn’t have a lot of words to say, lol!
Pineapple plants were everywhere!
One of the viewpoints on the hike.
This is a coconut tree and those are the “seeds” that grow in bunches, like grapes.
Most of the hike was completely vertical so we had a good workout.
One of the pitons.
Sheldon, our guide, who brought up the rear of the group.
Sheldon did a pano of us show and it shows us between the two pitons!
The local beer being advertised!
Where the beer and souvenirs were sold, at the top of the hike!
Again, I found the cats, lol!
On the way back down.
We went through this on the way up, so was glad to get a picture of it after everyone came back through. This is where the hike started.
It rained on us as we were on the trail, but it felt good! Was not expecting this beautiful surprise when we came back to catch the tender.
Taken from the tender on the way back to the ship!
Apparently the sails were in need of repair so five of the crew members went to work!
Our buddy, Jedmar, taking good care of us!
Our lovely Lina, who was always there with a smile 🙂
