Day 5 –Monday, March 3, 2025 – St. George’s, Grenada
Thank goodness for the late excursion after being up until 1:30 am! Had a leisurely breakfast, met with the gang for some travel chatting and then grabbed a quick bite for lunch before our excursion transport at 1pm.
Today’s excursion was a trek to the Bamboo Falls, which included hiking for about one mile, mostly going up, and crossing over two points of water crossings. The falls were nice, and we enjoyed our tour with Danny and Mike, who are both locals to the area. Grenada is known as spice county and they grow a numerous amount of different spices, even though they export them to resell. We heard lemongrass, cinnamon, coriander, clove, bay leaf, nutmeg, turmeric, mace, and allspice, as well as cacao and bread fruit. The island was devasted from Hurricane Beryl back in June/July 2024. The areas most affected by the hurricane were Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
It was nice to get some exercise going up and down to get the blood back to pumping, lol! I have just gotten over having a cold, so it was a bit tough for me as I was getting very short of breath on the way back up. We had a great drive to and from the falls on VERY narrow roads and the traffic was horrendous! Once we left the town, it got better, and it started cooling off and the air was “fresh”. It was a very lovely area, and it was nice to get out and see the beautiful scenery. The falls themselves were nothing spectacular but was nice as they were hidden away and very private. The whole trip, including the drive there and back, was about 4 hours. On the way back, we stopped at one of the lakes, which supplies some of the water for the area, and had a drink of one of the local juices, which was sweet, but not acidic tasting. Of course, I found a cat wandering around and had to say hello.
We got back to the ship, cleaned up, and met everyone for happy hour before dinner. The entertainment for tonight was a local steel drum band from the island, the Angel Harps, after dinner. The music was amazing, and we enjoyed it a lot. Since the night before was such a late one, John and I called it an early night.
We have a catamaran/snorkel excursion tomorrow and it leaves at 9 am so it will be an early start for us. Another day in paradise!
