Day 42 – June 30, 2025 – Foiano to Florence, Italy
This morning we had a good breakfast, packed up the car, said our goodbyes to Lorenzo (not sure where Fiorella was, but told him to tell her goodbye and thank you for everything!) and drove to Florence where we are staying the night before flying to Edinburgh tomorrow. We dropped off Vance’s rental car and got a taxi ride into town to our hotel, the Ambasciatori, right across the street from the train station. Our rooms were not ready, so we dropped off the bags and headed out to walk around for a while. Boy, was it hot!!!!! Florence was even hotter than Foiano and the sun felt like it was baking your skin. Luckily there are shaded areas as you walk so that helped but I felt like my sweat was sweating. We took Vance and Michelle to the area where we stayed two years ago and it was an area they had not seen. We stopped for lunch at La Petite Cocktail Restaurant where they had a fan blowing while sitting in the shade so that worked for us. I got a Caesar salad with chicken and John got salmon. Sorry no pics, forgot.
We headed back to the hotel to see if either of the rooms were ready and Vance and Michelle’s room was close to being done while ours was not. Check-in is at 3 pm and by 3:30pm it was still not ready, so we headed upstairs to the bar and all met up for drinks. They have happy hour that starts at 6 pm plus nibbles so Vance and Michelle just did that, and John and I went out to eat at a place around the corner from the hotel, Trattoria Osteria dal’Oste. We started with Venetian onion soup, which was AMAZING, and then both had spaghetti with clams. The food was delicious! We finished with cantucci and Vin Santo. Another wonderful Italian meal!
We headed back to the hotel, took showers and headed to bed. Tomorrow will be a long day of travel, but we are excited for the next part of the journey and COOLER weather, lol! John is the only one not excited about the weather, but he is outnumbered 😉 What a great trip so far – ciao!
