Day 6 – May 25, 2025 – Rome, Italy to Venice, Italy

We were up early this morning as we were catching the fast train to Venice. Had some fruit for breakfast, packed up the rest of the stuff and was out the door by 8:30 to meet up with our driver to take us to the train station. Traffic was not too bad, so we made good time. We grabbed a sandwich at the station and then got on our train around 9:30. It is almost a four-hour ride to Venice, so it gave John time to get some work done and I worked on the blog and tried to read. We seem to be magnets for loud, noisy people to be around us, as we had a family of six or seven that talked loud amongst themselves as well as face timing on their phones, which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I felt like I couldn’t even concentrate on anything as all you could hear was them. Unfortunately for us, they got off one stop before Venice, which meant we had to endure them the entire trip.

Once in Venice, we headed to our BNB, where the hosts met us. The last time we were here, they were on holiday as well, so we didn’t get a chance to meet them. They are a very nice couple (Adriano and Barbara) and we chatted for a while going over everything and asking for recommendations for things to do as we did all the “touristy” stuff the last time.

We did some unpacking then headed out to walk around since we had been sitting for four hours earlier. We decided to go pick up a few things from the store we would need and then dropped them off. I was getting hungry since we really didn’t have lunch, so we stopped and split a huge salad and our first pizza since being in Italy. Headed out again after lunch and just walked around people watching and familiarizing ourselves again with the area. By this time it was getting close to 7:30pm and while we weren’t starving, I knew John would be hungry enough to eat something, so we split a plate of seafood pasta.

We got back to the room about 9pm and I needed to do a load of laundry so threw that in and we settled in for the evening. Apparently, I put it on the Eco cycle, and I swear, it took over 2 hours to wash the clothes! John had already crashed by then, but I stayed up until it was finished to hang them, so it was after 11:30pm before I finally went to bed. I had another load to do (the machine is small and doesn’t hold much) but knew I’d have to wait and do it in the morning. Tomorrow there is nothing planned except walking around some of the areas we haven’t been to, which is good since more laundry needs to be done.

One thing we noticed as we were coming down the canal our BNB is on is that they are doing some construction. Apparently, they are having to raise up the sides about 4 inches due to the tide so there is quite a mess here at the moment. We are wondering when they will start their work tomorrow morning, lol! Guess we’ll find out……Ciao!

Standing outside our BNB in Rome. Love all the little cars!
Just arriving in Venice and ready to eat, lol! We are eating on our side of the canal this time.
