Day 23 – June 10, 2024 – Cannonville, UT to Henderson, NV
We got up around 6:30 and got the rest of our stuff packed to head out. We did a lot of the packing last night, so we had an easy morning with no need to rush. We had a quick breakfast and then was out the door by 9 a.m.
The drive to Henderson, NV is about a 4 ½ hour drive but with the wonky time changes between the states, we have no idea how long it took, lol! We got on 89 South, then on to Interstate 15 for a while until we reached La Verkin, UT. We stopped for a bite to eat at River Rock Roasting Company. They had all kinds of pastries and sandwiches/salads. I had “The Amerikesh” salad with chicken added. It is Moroccan styled with baby spinach, carrots, chickpeas, scallions, and cilantro tossed in a Moroccan lime dressing and topped with dates, pistachios, and feta cheese. John got the Beet Salad with chicken added as well. His had organic arugula & spinach salad, beets, red onions, blueberries, espresso glazed pecans and Gorgonzola in a cold brew infused balsamic vinaigrette. The salads were huge, but very good! We also bought one of their blueberry almond scones and it was amazing! We even bought one to go so that we can have it later. John had his Americano coffee, and I had an iced chai tea.
After lunch, we got back on the Interstate 15 and once we got into Nevada, we got onto SR 169, which brought us through the Lake Meade Recreational Area and then that brought us into Henderson. The stretch of SR 169 has NOTHING on it but land for miles as far as you can see. There was not much traffic, which was a nice change.
We made it to Henderson and found Lake Las Vegas. The BNB we are in is very posh compared to the others we have been in on this trip. It’s like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. It’s a condo that’s like it’s own mini village and has a pool, spa, grocery, etc.
We dropped things off and headed to the little grocery store on the premises and grabbed a bit of fruit and a few other things to tide us over until we leave on Friday. We cleaned up, I started laundry (the BNB in Cannonville didn’t have a washer/dryer so it had built up!) and then enjoyed a beer and some nibbles while sitting on the patio overlooking Lake Mead. Dinner is left over skirt steak with some egg noodles and a veggie medley.
The time change has messed with us again as Arizona was a 3-hour time change and Utah was a 2-hour time change and now here in Nevada we are back to a 3-hour change. We are going to be wonky for awhile when we get back, lol!
The agenda for tomorrow is going to Hoover Dam, maybe hit a brewery, possibly a museum, and go from there. John always finds something for us to do 😊 Today it was 105 so whatever we do, it will have to be early to beat the heat!
